Turn up the heat

I'm from the mid west and this means we get cold weather too soon. Today's high is under 50 degrees...BRRRRR. As the seasons change so should our haircare. I always recommend using a treatment once a week, but it's especially important once those furnaces fire up for the first time. As you know I left Omni Salon Spa and it was very bittersweet to say the least. Life is an ever changing journey and sometimes you have to change destinations. Why did I leave? Well, let me put it this way; have you ever known a couple that really love each other but break up because they want different things or they are going in different directions? That’s what happened with me at Omni. I love the salon and my co-workers very much, but I want to be doing different things and growing myself within my career.

          On September 29, 2009 I will be relocating to Raw Salon 140 W Chestnut Suite 3, Burlington, WI 53105 (262-417-1485). Raw Salon is also a Redken salon (which you know I Love). I accepted this position knowing I will be surrounded with the knowledge, confidence, team environment and experience that will help me be the best I can be. It would be my pleasure to have you join me. Should the location, drive or area not suit you, the stylists at Omni Salon Spa will be honored to serve you with the professionalism and style you have had in the past. Again it has been my pleasure to be your stylist and I look forward to seeing you soon.

There are varying reasons as to why people color their hair: need for quick change, Cover up unmentionables, return hair to childhood shade, etc. The reason for coloring your hair should one of the biggest factors as to the method of coloring you choose.

How many different ways can I get color?

* Demi-Permanent - This is an excellent starter color. This color will last up to 6 weeks and gradually fades away. The down side is that you can not go lighter than your natural color, you can only go darker. But it can be a fun way to experiment. This color will NOT cover gray, it will only blend them away. This means that some of the grays will be the same color as the all over and some will be lighter, most of all some may not accept color at all.

* Permanent- This color can let you go lighter or darker while adjusting any unwanted tones (brassiness or mousy hair). This option covers gray the best. There will come a time at which this option may not cover gray, more of a blending may occur. This service should be touched up every 4-6 weeks. The exception to the touch up timing is if you have a darker shade naturally and you choose to go  very light blonde, then you should get your touch ups done every 3 weeks.

* Highlights- This service option is widely known among all age groups. Once called frosting (doesn't that make you cringe?) and now used in a variety of different ways and tones. Highlights are usually associated with adding Blonde streaks to lighten the hair. This should be touched up every 2 1/2 to 3 months.

*Low-lights- This service is done the exact same way as highlighting, except it adds darker shades instead of lighter shades. This is an excellent way to add dimension to Blondes or lighter Brunettes.

All of the above services can be combined together to give you a specialized look that is just right for you. Don't forget to consider what you can set aside for your beauty budget before jumping into a service that needs to be touched up often. This is where most people under estimate.

Which should I choose?

I can't answer that question with out asking you a series of questions. But I can tell you that a good consultation should put all of your worries at rest. Do your self a favor (or two) by seeking out pictures from your favorite magazines or from the web to show the stylist what you are thinking. It makes it a lot easier on both of you. Make an appointment for your consultation that way you know you won't be talked into something you may not want. And if you don't like what you hear you don't have to make the next appointment.

This is an area I believe a lot of people are confused about what to expect and what is expected of them.
Make your appointment and be honest. I have seen many people become frustrated just because there was not enough time to do everything or there was too much time allowed and the stylist suffers(silently, of course).
     Here are a few examples of when you should ask for extra time.... *your hair is extra long or thick . *you have curly hair and you want it straightened. * you are not exactly sure of what you want.
Something to consider is a consultation. A consultation can answer all of your questions and give the stylist a better idea of your expectations. These are usually free and are well worth the time.
     Bring Pictures. Even if Laura Conrad's new style isn't the exactly what you were looking for it can help tell a story of what you like and don't like.
Be on time. I know I have a very tight schedule and I can work with you most days, but there are a few where I have no room to take a break. If you think you maybe late call ahead. Most times we can help others it takes away from your experience and limits us.
Turn your cell phone off. This is supposed to be a relaxing time and sometimes we need to tilt and turn your head. If your are on the phone we cannot run our clippers and blow-dryers.
Listen.  I have great style advice to share if you are willing to participate and listen. Yes, I am telling you what products I am using. I choose the salon I work at because of these products. Yes, I believe they work. I use them at home and on my family. Don't get caught in the "Brand" but get caught in the why and how. I have seen people completely shut down because they heard the sales pitch starting. "I am here to help you LOVE your hair. Here are some products that will help you achieve this look at home." I say this because I care.

Now you have the knowledge. What will you do with it?
I feel like I have left my customers in limbo. I am sorry. I left my last salon so suddenly that i did not think things through. I will not settle for the first place that comes along. I am looking for a place to further my career, not just maintain it. It may take me a little bit, but I promise that I will not leave you forever. I understand that your hair is on a schedule ( I helped with that). I understand that you feel lost. I need to find the perfect place to be able to give you the service you deserve with a smile (inside and out).

Time for change. 08/26/2009
It is with a heavy heart that I am informing you of my departure from Omni Salon Spa. As many of you know I have moved recently and I wish to remain close to my children. I know that my departure was very sudden, but I followed my heart. I have not found where I will working at next.
